Life for girls in Bangladesh is tough. The country is poor, the culture of honour is strong, and deep structural discrimination runs through entire communities. Progress has been made in latter years, sexual harassments has been criminalized, but being born a girl is still equal to being born with less of opportunities.
Through portraying a girl coming of age, where so many things regarding her future are being determined, we hope to raise thoughts and bring about a discussion about young girls like Reba. And in the long run strengthen girls’ rights and opportunities.
We are very grateful that Reba, her family and friends wanted to share their everyday life with us, in front of the camera. Without them this film would not have been made possible!
